Avoid these Tourist Scams when in Italy: https://youtu.be/otjRrWNs2mg
Here are more do's and don'ts in Italy:
1. Do not tell jokes to Italians. The only time Italians love something funny is when it happens unplanned and in normal circumstances.
2. Don't talk loud in public or indoors, especially in the north of Italy. You will be seen as a lunatic that is childish and selfish.
3. Never ….EVER wear open toe shoes. If you want Italians to laugh at you really hard wear white sock with sandals or shoes showing your toes. That we will find hilarious 😂
4. Always kiss female friends you know well even if they are old. Shaking hands with an Italian you know well sends a signal that you don't feel comfortable and you won't be trusted after that. Remember controlled confidence is the way to go. But don't kiss your own a*ss like Donald Trump does. You will be perceived as a buffoon clown.
5. To be safe always wear a black shirt and slacks. Try not to wear blue jeans. That's for teenagers. Sneakers and t-shirts with cartoons or sports team on it is considered childish and goofy as if you never grew up and are stuck being a child with Star Wars action figures in your house. A nice black leather jacket and shoes, or a dress or two piece for women with one color is great. All the patterns and overly bright color clothing is seen as not modern and ancient here in Italy.
6. Try to shower please, especially if you are a tourist doing all day walking tours. I can't tell you how many times I've stood in a store next to tourists from all over the world that stink really bad. Here we men wear cologne. The women perfume. But we don't over do it. A good safe scent that is not overbearing is lemon scent or sandlewood essential oils on your neck, on your jacket. Other good cheap colognes if you are on a budget are Roget and Galet, and Obsession for men and women.
7. To communicate in Italian use the Google translate app. You just ask it how do you say this or that. Then the app from that point on translate in audio both you and the Italian to the other language instantly and the app is free. Or buy an audio language conversatio translator machine on Amazon and you will communicate in an language in full conversations.
I hope my suggestions help you. Arrivederci !!
Good water plan
It is too much to be careful at!!!
Live in Milan and born in Rome. He is correct.
it must be noted also: you CAN make modifications to your plates… but ask if you can and if there's some recommendation from the kitchen on what to take instead of what you wanted to order, an example with the carbonara, let's say you can't eat pork or are vegetarian and don't know which other plate you might like, ask this:
"vorrei una carbonara, ma senza maiale perché sono XX*, è possibile o mi consiglia altro?"
which translates to "i'd like a carbonara, but without pork as i'm XX*, can that be done or do you have alternative recommendations?"
where XX would be vegetarian, intolerant, muslim, etc.
Hide all ur valuable inside your underwear or atleast in a mini belt around
your front side in chest inside the t shirt , italy is full of scammers and theives
Not only Italian driver are thinking that way. Even in Baku, Tunis and Athens driver won stop for pedestrian
And what about those who cannot drink alcohol? Not this, not that? I'm not sure I would find Italy entirely welcoming.
And who CANNOT drink alcohol? Anyone in recovery from alcoholism.
The dry bread with no oil or butter is one frustration I have.
I appreciate countries have their traditions but Italy takes it to a whole new higher level of expectation on so many fronts.
What if you have food allergies? Like onions or tomatoes?
How about kosher?
Love tour Channel Gregor. We're watching your content from Meico City.
Loved your video Greg, Italian here living in UK, restaurateur for 35 years! The battles I've had trying to educate the NOs of adding cream to Carbonara or pineapple to Italian pizza 😅 .Loved your clear explanations of everyday touring .💙🇮🇹
Could you give an example of something simple to wear a s a hat in the summer, please?
I'm italian and I say: do whatever you want. Nobody cares.
Shouldn’t you ask, “parla inglese?” (Vs. parli) if it’s a stranger on the street or shopkeeper—I think it’s more polite to use the 3rd person (lei). Corretto?
Tipping? Man! We were in Rome, about 5 years ago and they run after us for not tipping after we dine with 50 plus people. Talking about not ordering enough food. We ordered so much food that we had to take home half of the food. And they were the ones that advise to order that amount for the amount of people we had. 😢
Thank you for your prompt replies. We are looking at Sicily. However, if you ever make it out to the Great Sonoran Desert in Southern Arizona, dinner is on us!!
I will have to wear some kind of hat when I go in June – what can I wear?
It's so free and comfortable. I like this feeling. I want to join your fan club.
Italians don't wear high heels? 😁🤣
With Spanish you can get around!
German here who is regularly in Italy: I laughed so hard because it's all true.
Very sympathetically presented!
You advise not to ask for modifications, but I have a food allergy. Are Italian eateries understanding when it comes to allergies?
the like came for that "carry-in-your-pocket PDF"
I agree with many things you say, but it's not as terrible as you explain, it's true that here everything is often late, as for tips, in Italy since a waiter was kind and helpful, it's not mandatory, there are certainly some highly touristic cities like Florence and Rome where tourists are cheated, but not in all of them, compliments for your explanations, as an Italian I'll give you a good 10
Hi, i have to visit Italy this summer. Do you think it's enough for 2 weeks if im visiting Venice, Florence, Vatican City, and Padua?
best way to eat in europe is to learn to ask what the waiter recommend
No lo so!
I'm sorry but hats are VERY important when visiting in the summer! Wear whatever hat you can to protect yourself, forget how it looks or if it makes you look like a tourist, IMO.
Hi Gregor my first car was a Morris minor van, an ex british postal van, when I was a student . We were in Italy , Bergamo Alta, for our honeymoon 19 years ago , and we fell in love with it. We have a trip booked for the beginning of September, staying in montevecchia, just north of Monza. ( going to the grand prix) so I'm looking forward to our trip. J
2 days I got bored in Italy.
Trains are mostly pretty much on time, the high speed ones. Never had an issue with punctuality though and not a fan of it unless I’ve a flight to board.
The Italian situation with punctuality gives me immense delight especially when it irks Anglophones.
After several years? Capacino and bongurno 😂
thanks for making this flim!great information!thank you!
Who is going to Italy to pretend to be local?
Absolutely look both ways crossing the street! I was nearly killed in Naples back in '99 jaywalking across three lanes because the middle lane was a reversible bus-only express lane with buses going in the opposite direction you would intuitively think they were headed. Only my friend yelling "watch out" saved me from stepping in front of a bus.
I had fun with ire and are verbs. Parli inglese is formal but parla inglese is informal. Meanwhile ascolti is informal but ascolta is formal. Anyway I don’t have to say parli inglese anymore. I’m perfectly capable of communicating in Italian.😊
