Lake Como is an easy day trip from Milan. In this video I feature the station and train options, and the beauty of Lake Como. Leave from Milan Centrale or Milan Garibaldi, and see what an extra €1 gets you on the Swiss Eurocity service operated by Swiss Railways.

Nice trip. Next time you want to see Como check the combined ticket Trenord+ferry.
Those ICE trains are amazing. We hopped on one last year to get from Milano to Monza (a special put on for the Italian Grand Prix.
Did you bought your tickets in advance? Is there any prise difference if you buy on the spot? I m planning a trip in first week of August with my 2 chlidren and wants to take a train from milano centrale. Any ideas and suggestion?
10:35 The station 'Milano-Cadorna' is located in the city center of Milan, very close to the Castle.
If anyone is thinking of going to lake como don't go in April or early May, it rains most days
Well explained
better station for day trip is "como lago" 50 m near lake
Hi. I find your videos fascinating and informative. Can you advise what camera and software you use to film and edit them? Thank you
Nice and informative video. Visited the lake region in Como in 2023 as pat of a holiday trip to Italy, and it is absolutely breathtaking. I think, the best way to visit from Milan is to take the regional train to Varenna Esino, which is closer to the popular tourist destinations. You can either stay at Bellagio, the pearl of lake Como or in Varenna or Mennagio which are slightly cheaper and less crowded. You can consider staying at one of the many Vilas, which are expensive but worth every single euro you spend. The region has plenty to offer in terms of scenic beauty, surrounding mountains and the lake itself. Would recommend staying here for 1-2 nights.
loved my visit to Como, did the same, grabbed a train from Milan and just explored, then found the bus station and took buses along the lakeside and jumped out at random villages for a look round and bite to eat and drink, was the best day, totally off the cuff, and had a real locals experience, walking into a restaurant where they do not speak good English was fab, we made it work and had a great time with the hosts, epic food, and memories to boot. Was back in 2000 when the net was not so prominent or accessible on phones, so was sort of the last time before we got used to net access at all times. Great upload, those sights have reminded me of good times, thank you!
Milan Centrale is indeed magnificent, but it's an ergonomic nightmare. Moving on…I thought Tennant's had died of shame years ago.
What is the cheapest and fastest train to lake Como from Milan . Do you have to book in advance
Spoken like a true Irishman…I can smell the rain coming! Love it. From US & want to try this train- thx
You are very sweet guy. This video makes my bad mood better❤ I plan to visit Milan in february and probably will use the popular transport from central station to veranna but your video made me feel like a local. Thank you it was very lovely and I wanna ask where did you get the map? Its clear that it is a saving one:)
Touristes touristes touristes go home !!!!!
What a great little video. Thank you. It helps me tremendously.
Hi..love your video, very well introduction. Thanks so much
Try the high speed ferry to Domasio at the top of the lake.
Great video Scott. Never been to Lake Como but went to Limone on Lake Garda. Absolutely stunning. We were there during Italia 90 world cup tournament, just to make it more interesting. Italians know how to celebrate and throw a party or two.
You can also take the train to Como from Cadorna station in Milan.
Moto Guzzi motorcycle factory is on lake Como and accepts visitors. Last went to Lakes in 2021 and the Italians seemed to dislike the British. The hotel owners gave one of our party a severe dressing down because she declined a dish at dinner and a cafe on Garda was displeased when we ordered colas at an outside table; told us to have one and go but then changed his mind when all his other customers left. Became accustomed to Germans being served first and then enjoying long discussions with patrons while we waited. Very different to all our previous holidays.
I’d suggest going from Milan centrale to Varanna, about 1 hour on the right hand side of lake como.
It’s a very short down hill walk to the ferry (the cheapest cruise) check the time to Belargio on the other side of the lake. The hotel at the ferry terminal did meals which were very enjoyable. Its worth the short walk south to the rest of the village. Plenty of places to dine. Remember, Always, always validate your ticket before getting on a regional or local train in ITALY. THERE IS NO EXCUSE, (it was a 50Euro fine), and I have seen multiple tourists get caught by the inspectors. Being a tourist is no excuse. Regards
Scott you are the best travel person I ever seen . ❤
In Italy, many stations are ‘Centrale’ it’s pronounced correctly ‘Chen-trah-leh’.
THANKS FOR SHARING VERY INFORMATIVE👍🏿
Thanks for this you have inspired a fellow Scot – recently retired I am coming to Milan 16th – 23rd this month. My usual twice yearly base is Bologna and have used the trains to travel. I think a day trip to Como even in December will be OK weather not a problem. I prefer to use Milano Centrale because I know where I am. I visited Milan a few times day trip and overnighters but this time I will get to grip with the details. Thanks again.
You do very well Scott obviously you are well trained 😂
You're very unlucky, man. Bad weather, no ferries, no funicular. You'ld can always travel to Centro Lago by bus. 😊
I think I'd need to allow for extra time just to stare at the details at Milano Centrale. (Not to mention all the stuff at Como.)
I’ve become familiar with Como. Brother lives ther.
I just clicked on a video for Lake Como because I want to go there. It's perfect, I'm staying next to the Cadorna station. Glad to see the train goes straight to Lake Como.
Italians dress according to the season not the weather. The temperature in Rome in March could be 25° but everyone will be dressed in coats and scarves. Why? Because that's what you do. It's March ffs.
Como Lago is the best route…Starts Cadorna Station in Milan – Double decker trains too…Como Lago at the waters edge… The main station in Como is a lengthy walk away.
Milan Centrale is so beautiful though.
Is it always platform 6 or does it change daily?
